ABOUT ME
I’m Maddie Oh, and my artwork explores the ways in which societal pressure and expectation shape identity. I focus on the tension between who we are and who we are expected to be by our family, culture, and community.

Cultural expectations can both guide and confine. Through my work, I strive to translate these internal pressures into visual form to reveal the emotional framework that supports (or hinder) performance, perfectionism, and belonging.

This theme stems from both my lived experience and personal observation. It comes from the unspoken expectations that dictate the ways in which I present myself to the world and the quiet negotiations between authenticity and approval. To me, art is both reflection and resistance.
